One of my favorite Italian photographers is Aurelio Amendola. On my bookshelf is one of his books L’Occhio Indiscreto subtitled “Un Fotografo alla Scoperta degli Artisti” (a photographer discovers artists, the inquisitive eye) published in 1991 shown above.
What a photographic eye Amendola has. The book is chock full of photographs of famous Italian an foreign artists photographed in their natural surrounding: The STUDIO. It is a large size book 9.5×11 inches, and has 174 pages with a two page foreword in English and a short Italian/English artist biography on each page. Below is a YouTube video of the 1993 Exhibiton Aurelio Amendola – l’ Occhio Indiscreto – Palazzo Comunale Pistoia, Italy.
What a delight to see the poetry of the images come right at you. A few of the artists mentioned in this volume are Mario Schifano, Nicola de Maria, Sandro Chia, A. Pomodoro, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Larry Rivers, and others.
Below is an interview in Italian of Amendola with Francesco Galluzzi in 2008 on YouTube.
