Going through a pile of books ready to be put back on the shelf, I noticed something curious. This slender volume A Single Pebble by John Hersey quickly shared some of its innermost secrets with me. Actually written during the time (1956) when most readers had little knowledge of China other than reading Pearl Buck!

George Salter did the book design, dust jacket, typography, lay out, and spacing. What a sheer delight!
