commando storyFrom our bookshelf, a lot of folk talk these days about Special Forces, Seals and Special Ops, so I wanted to go back in history a bit to learn more.

commando2The title of this book is Combined Operations and the byline “The Official Story of the Commandos“. Written in 1943 at the height of the Second World War, it has a foreword by Vice-Admiral Lord Mountbatten the Chief of Combined Operations. Curiously enough Mountbatten was later blown to bits by an IRA bomb. Besides belonging in the category, military, it also has a place under ” cloak and dagger“, “infowars and intelligence“. Good reading for the Sunday armchair warrior.
