What happens when you cross the “King of Pop” with “Pop Stars” (a.k.a.musicians)? Well, you get an album cover designed by Andy Warhol for the Rolling Stones album “Love You Live” released in 1977. Andy Warhol (1928-1987) a painter, illustrator, filmmaker and so on.
A different case is the painter JONI MITCHELL (first and foremost, a songwriter, poet and singer) using her own paintings (which may or may not relate to the album) to illustrate a piece of music, her own album in 1979 in memory of Charlie Mingus. Yes, not just relying on the use of a self shot photograph of her or him (of this type there are enough examples available) but an actual other type of her own art.
