Much has been written on food and wine, more has been written on the French, but stories about food, wine and France are interesting!

img630I just love this serious food book. Not only for the great recipes but for the way the stories about food get woven into real life and history.

This heavy folio size book from the early 1960’s has it all. Fantastic photographs by the best, depicting life to its fullest as only the French can.

img631This is serious stuff, full of unexpected twists and turns and above all real facts. I got a bit fascinated with the part on the various wines from the French Regions. Needless to say, I am slowly reclining into my soft chair with visions of the gents shown here in this post.

img636img637img635Do you see something unusual here? The long cut grape stems are put in water in the bottle and overwinter this way. Fascinating and great for you if you have a cellar or need fresh grapes in your plush restaurant. What an eye opener this one is. It does not hurt to have your own garden with vegetables either like this man has.img633After hard work, and writing is hard work believe me, I need some pause to refresh. Maybe the Gateau de Pommes dessert will do.img638A little Calvados, probably bought from the man shown below, will do well to wash down the gateau. A La Votre!
