Great material for research can be found in these older architectural magazines like the one above which features a strike out cover designed by the icon of modern design Herbert Matter signed on the bottom right. The Architectural Record is an outstanding resource and this yearly issue showcases the work of the following architects:
It is evident to me looking through the magazine that much so called modern residential architecture has lost much of its free stylistic approach today shown in this magazine. Today’s architecture seems to concentrate, perhaps, more on technical innovation and environmental concerns than on creating real “living habitats“.
I have selected a beautiful sample from the magazine that easily could be built today. It is the house featured on the cover. The architectural photography in the magazine is exemplary for its time.
Very lovely and surely a fab place to live! Kudos Mr.Matsumoto. Yes, the contemporary Bertoia chairs in this Knoll advertisement from the late fifties also designed by Herbert Matter would fit in nicely.
