Irving Howe (1920-1993) pictured here on the back cover was a controversial American Jewish Socialist author and critic, much admired by the left wing radicals of the 60’s and 70’s.
Author Margaret Truman (1924-2008), socialite, singer and daughter of President Harry S.Truman wrote a number of successful crime novels.
From our earlier post on John Cheever’s 1969 book with the dust jacket by Paul Bacon.
Once you get the hang of identifying these types of great dust jackets by Paul Bacon just by their appearance, you realize you are looking at a great period of dust jacket design in American book history. For the design of his record album covers I suggest reading this interview on Jazzwax.com by Marc Myers.
