A Reflection in the form of prose and an exhibition on the occasion of the Liberation of the Auschwitz/Oswiecim Concentration Camp in Poland on January 27, 1945 by Russian troops.

Let’s let the books speak!

start

What is there to say?

img660

How much more do you want to know? Do you want a PhD? A bit of poetry and prose might shed more light.

In the annals of history,

all memory belongs

to those absent.

fairly soon you too will share

all that belonged to other days.

In countless words and well described,

you have been told of a naked place,

an empty spot, the end of line.

of box cars filled with living fear.

But a voice came and said: be still,

I will hide your soul so you can tell,

for seven generations and one night.

I shall protect you like Jonah in the whale’s belly

and when the time is right I shall spit you out like a new man.

I shall clothe you and give you shoes so you can stand up, a righteous man.

In your silence, I hear you cry Shema Israel, but wait, your newborns

will tell and when your time comes you and I will know that

I , Adonai, shall raise you again in my arms, away

from the ignorance of blinded men. poem by Twicemodern

Let us go on with the story:

img558

How?

One, by One, by OneWhere?

img560

How many boys and girls? What sort of schools? How did they do it?

img762

Who is “innocent”?

img785

Who is guilty?

img561

Not many spoke, but did they not read?

img563

Why should they? Why bomb the train lines? They solved our problems too!

img564

Who knew? Everybody knew a bit of the story.

How much did they know? Jan Karski told everyone!

A11

A12

Who believed it? Who wanted to believe it? Why believe it!

A10

What difference does it make?

What difference does it make? Do you know the question? Do you know the answer? Does the question sound familiar?

A9

Why do you want answers? Why do you have so many questions?

A5

Who profited? Many corporations did! Millions of IBM punch cards were sold. Trading with an enemy is always profitable for banks and business.

War makes money, BIG money. BASF, BAYER, HOECHST, AGFA, BMW, MERCEDES, VW, ROBERT BOSCH, SIEMENS, DEUTSCHE BANK, PHILIPS, so many more.

A8

So many questions?

A4

Why do you want to know?

A6

Who was responsible?

It is a long time ago.

A1

Are there any witnesses left?

Did they fight?

How many box cars did it take?

Did everyone look away? Almost everybody did!

img598

Did the world look away again? Will the world look away again?

Who lived in those empty houses and who lives there now?

img478

Who took away their companies and property?

A7

Who transported the stolen goods? Who ran the trains? How many museums took the new paintings? How many Swiss banks sold the stolen gold? How many insurance companies pocketed the premiums? Who never paid any compensation, who banked on slave labor? Who made the chemicals? Who designed the ovens? Where did the camp guards go? Where did the chemists go? Where did the leaders go? Who were the willing “followers”? Can it happen again?

img727

Can it happen now, can it happen again? Can it happen only to Jews or other “indesirables”?

img728

Who is watching over you, WHO IS WATCHING OUT FOR YOU IF NOT YOU?
