On many ordinary occasions in life, we ask ourselves the following questions. What is the meaning of this celebration or commemoration? What is the impact on my life? How does it effect the community to which I belong, or in which I partake, and does it really matter?

On Memorial Day and especially this one in 2015 which coincides with commemorations and celebrations all over Europe for the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II, it has a special meaning for all of us, no matter where we live.

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE AND NEEDS TO BE DEFENDED VIGOROUSLY AND VIGILANTLY and there is a price to pay.

My thanks go to the Army veteran of the 101st Airborne Division who uploaded the video below for all of us.

Today is not the time for politics and ideologies, for right and wrong, for winners and losers, but for dedication and service, not for God and Country,  but for the Family of Men and Women. Today is the time to reflect on the future by commemorating the sacrifices made by some in the past, and by honoring those who might make such sacrifice in the near future for our FREEDOM, any place any time.

The role of the 101st Airborne in the liberation in 1945 of The Netherlands, in Operation Market Garden has not been forgotten, on a personal note, neither has been forgotten the role of the 42nd and 45th Infantry Divisions in liberating my father from the Dachau Concentration Camp on April 29th 1945.

To those valiant liberators, and only very few are left, a heartfelt – THANK YOU!
