Jean-Philippe Charbonnier (1921-2004) was one of the guest of honors at the first Rencontres dArles (South of France) the world re-known photography event held in the town of Arles, France.

Charbonnier gained instant notoriety for two famous photographs. The first one is of a public execution in France after the end of WWII shown below, and again we let the photographer explain his innermost thoughts and feelings.

The second famous image was taken in Kuwait of a woman who carried a sewing machine on her head (image not shown here).
